About

So who am I? I’m a geeky chick who is utterly and completely in love with technology. I spend a lot of time working with the Facebook API for large brands, and my work recently enabled my company to become a Facebook Preferred Developer Consultant. That basically means that we strictly adhere to best-practices of the Facebook Platform and execute projects in a way that leverage the platform in a way that really makes it shine, one of which made it to Forbes’ list of Best-Ever Social Media Campaigns.

My CEO recently asked me to write a short bio that makes me sound awesome. I hate writing these things, and I don’t know if it actually makes me sound awesome, but this is what I gave him:

Gamer, swordfighter, blacksmith, crime-fighter, ENTP, hacker, speaker and all around geek, Alison’s code-fu has been strong for 16 years. The author of two programming books, Alison has been featured in People Magazine for her innovative use of technology to solve problems. With almost 10,000 followers, she was featured in Wired Magazine as one of the top 100 geeks to follow on Twitter, and on Mashable as one of the top 15 hacker chicks to follow.

Alison has been part of a prestigious group of outspoken Open Source leaders selected to attend the Microsoft Web Developer’s Summit and everyone managed to make it out alive. She was one of the first developers to leverage the Facebook and Twitter APIs to build interactive web applications. Her work has been featured in Ad Age, ReadWriteWeb, Current.Com, Nerve.Com and Laughing Squid. She studies the Israeli martial art of krav maga, is teaching herself Japanese and makes her own jewelry out of USB devices.

A Little History

After an unfulfilling career on Wall Street, I moved into the website and graphic design industry 14 years ago. Now located in Hudson Valley, New York, I left New York City in early 2000 for San Diego, California to accept the position of Technical Director at Inter@ctivate, where I had been a long-time contractor.

Prior to that, I taught Graphic Design and Advanced Web Development for Long Island University and worked as the Senior Producer at Cybergrrl, Inc – (parent company to Cybergrrl.Com, Webgrrls, and Femina – and no, they’re not porn sites.)

Before leaving San Diego, I enjoyed a wonderful position as a web developer for the San Diego Blood Bank, where I developed database applications that help save lives. In September of 2006, I moved back to the east coast to settle into the Hudson Valley, New York area.

I now work for a business innovation agency in New York City as their Director of Technology. We do some pretty cool stuff. Have I mentioned our case studies?

In my (limited) free time, I am the director of Pet-Abuse.Com and continue to use my skills to provide online resources to further our cause, creating the first and only database-driven system to track, monitor and update criminal animal abuse. I am also the co-founder of EverydayActivist.Com, a website that helps everyday people learn what they can do to save the earth.
